MUSCULOSKELETAL RADIOLOGY

Musculoskeletal radiology is an area of radiology that utilizes imaging technology to evaluate joints, bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments, including the spine, for various disorders. Among these are various injuries, tears, fractures, arthritis and spinal disc herniations. Imaging techniques can discern injuries which can mimick each other on clinical evaluation, and help guide appropriate treatment by orthopedists and other physicians toward the most effective treatment and sometimes avoid more invasive surgery. Radiologists in this area also perform treatments, such as pain injections, cyst aspirations, and biopsies.
